What other elements might go in my website?
Some examples of additional elements could be: items for multi-column footers, signup forms, maps, weather boxes, photo galleries, calendars, browser tab favicon, and on-page SEO
What if I need to sell something?
If you have just a few items you sell (intangible or tangible), I can set up your site for this. For a true eCommerce site, there are several eCommerce plugins that work fantastic with WordPress. I’d be glad to load the plugin for you but the actual setup must be done by you (I don’t specialize in this).
How much does it cost?
My price range is $350 and up for a basic 3-page starter site, and up to $2000 for a robust site with 10 to 25 pages. A detailed quote will be provided.
How long does it take to complete a website?
This depends on both of us. I need all your content and images (at least 80%) to get started on designing it. Once I have it, it tpically takes anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks for a small site, up to 4- 6 months for large sites.
Do you require a contract be signed?
Yes, and I allow no changes to it (so you needn’t bother taking it your lawyer to look over). Don’t worry, we’re both protected. It will be emailed to you along with your detailed quote.
What are my payment options?
Check, cash or major credit card. A 1/3 deposit is required to get started. Payment in full is due 20 days after final launch.
What is hosting?
Hosting is your paid provider that stores all the files associated with your website. Hosting is usually paid annually, and typically costs $5-12/month.
What is a domain?
Your domain name, also known as a URL, is the name of your website (i.e. KerriMarvelServices.com) and must be registered with a Registrar company.
Who sets up the hosting and domain name?
Usually you do. But if you are unsure how to go about it or think you’ll answer something wrong (usually done online), I can set it up for you using your credit card number.
Do you supply hosting?
No. I have always felt it was cleaner and safer for clients to have direct access to the host company. If you don’t have hosting or a domain name yet, I can help you get these set up.
Will I get email with the website?
Probably. Email must be host-compatible. If so, I will create as many as they include in your plan that you need. However I do not do the setup of the email on your computer or phone. I will supply a link from the host with instructions.
Do I need a logo?
Not anymore. But if you have one, great. The trend in websites today is to use just text for the website name within the header area.
Who does the copywriting for the website pages?
You will have to create your own text and content for the pages, and I will add it to your site. I merely create the beautiful framework. If you need help with this, I can suggest some copywriters.
Will my site be Search Engine Optimized (SEO)?
Yes and no. I will install a plugin called Yoast SEO; it’s the #1 most popular SEO tool for WordPress. This will make your site SEO-Friendly, which means it’s easy to add SEO elements. If you supply SEO page titles and SEO page descriptions, I will add them for you. I will not do the research as part of a website creation project, unless you have contracted with me to supply one of my SEO packages (coming by end of year 2017, not available yet).
I’ve heard that website owners need to do ‘maintenance’? Is that true? What’s that mean?
Yes. Websites can’t be created and then forgotten anymore. WordPress is an open-source software and updates to functionality and security occur frequently. WordPress should be updated as soon as these updates come out. In addition, updates come out for plugins and themes. Additional maintenance is highly suggested for malware checks and other tools for keeping your site running fast and performing well. I can help – sign up for a KMS Website Care Plan.
